Esperaza is a delightful little town in Aude between Couiza and Quillan. The house for sale is just off the main square in Esperaza and is walking distance from all amenties - 2 small supermarkets, patisseries, restaurants and a thriving Sunday market.
This is a Cathar area, surrounded by the chateaux of the Albigensia. The property itself is next to the ancient church and from the bottom of the street you can see the hill-top village of Rennes-le-Chateau.
There is a dinosaur museum in Esperaza, with rare fossils found nearby, beautiful walks through the surrounding area and other attractions which include, a natural labyrinth at Nebias and a theatre and cinema in Quillan. A short drive away is the Medeival city of Carcassonne, Looking like a fairy palace and steeped in history. where throughout the summer jousting tournaments are held.
Esperaza is well served by public transport, one of the reasons I am here, as I don't drive. You can fly into Carcassonne or Perpignan airports with RyanAir or take a train through the beautiful mountain scenery, criss-crossing the Aude.
